Any Eastern RV Ski Areas?

I am traveling from Florida, anyone know the closest and easiest access (close to major roads) to a Winter RV Resort that is close to a SKI area? I'd like to drive a little farther than NC or TN to be assured Real Snow in late December. The skiing doesn't have to be world class, (after all, we are from FL) but would like a scenic area. We still have the A/C on here so we will welcome some winter weather. Thanks!

RE: Heading to Florida from Glacier National Park:

I live in Fl and have property in MT., was in GNP, Banff, Jasper this summer and came back this time on I-15 to Provo to US 6 (good road w passing lanes on the long grades) TO I-70 to US 191 through MOAB, UT. Be sure to see Arches, NP and many others in area on way down to I-40, 191 is a very easy drive and one of the most scenic in the country, allow 2 or 3 days on 191, plenty of campgrounds on it. I have driven back and forth to MT 5 or 6 times in Class A, I hate I-90 also, it is always very windy. You can angle down off I-40 on Indian Turnpike east of OK City, but it is a little rough but with little traffic. I then picked up I-49 to I-10. If you go this way, be sure to take I-12 bypass around NOLA unless you want to stop there.

RE: KOA vs. State Park - NW Oregon

Almost stayed at Ft. Stevens in June but we stayed across the bridge instead at Cape Disappointment (Washington). Don't believe the name, had brand new large back in sites right off the beach all with full hookups and 50 amp service. BIG RIG FRIENDLY! It was great hearing the surf, wind and usually rain each night. A very nice park! I downsized Coaches just to stay in more public parks, you always have more privacy and space and views. But you don't need a smaller coach to stay in Cape Disappointment. You do need a smaller rig to drive into Ecola State Park, just south of Ft. Stevens, day camping only but was one of the most scenic beaches I have ever seen! My 31 footer was about as big as you'd go to navigate the winding narrow 3 mile road. This is a must see park if you are in the area!

RE: Wackiest and Most Unusual

How about a recent 9100 mile trip and spent one hour in Alaska!!! We drove from Florida to B/C and decided to go to Hyder, the only town accessible by road in Southern Alaska. The drive there was beautiful, lots of bear sightings and a nice close up Glacier but the town just plain has nothing to offer! The unpaved roads were one big pothole, all the people we saw but one were unfriendly, I stopped in the General Store to see if I was missing something and the owner was smoking a stogie, drinking a beer and watching TV. He acted like I was an intruder. We then left town! B/C and Pacific Coast were great. Hyder Alaska is NOT a tourist destination!

RE: Workhorse A/C Problem

The unit blows ice cold when working, then will just stop cooling and blow the same flow rate but the air is ambient air. I tried every setting, recirculate, played with temp switch fan speeds, off/on switch. I notice no noise from unit, it does act like it is icing up since it takes awhile in off mode to start working again but I even looked for ice and saw none. I have had a car ice up and you could see ice on the hoses etc. It will stop running when cruising or in stop and go traffic but it is usually always very hot outside. I don't think it does it when it is mixing air at lower temps. It is definitiely related to heat and acts like the a/c unit overheats but the dealer is adement there is no sensor or cutoff to shut it down if it is running too hard. It bugs me as not only is the warrenty running out it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get into a workhorse dealer in the Tampa Bay area. The engine is of course is the 8.1 GM engine.

Workhorse A/C Problem

I recently returned from a long trip (9100 mile) and had intermittent problems with the dash A/C that the Workhorse dealer cannot duplicate or figure out. It is a 2005 Monaco Coach. The dash air would quit blowing cold and only blow "vent" air much of the time. It would never go back to blowing cold unless we stopped or unless I turned off the dash air for an hour or so. I would play with the switch, the settings etc. nothing would make it start blowing cool again except shutting down the system for awhile. It was definitely related to the outside air temperature. The hotter it was the quicker it would quit blowing cold and just blow ambient air. The engine never overheated and always ran in 12 o clock position. The dealer says there is no overheat sensor on the system that should cause the compressor or anything else to shut down and they can't get it hot enough just driving it a few minutes. They have done all pressure checks etc. and can find nothing wrong. I am concerned as my warranty expires in Feb and I won't go on a long hot trip until next summer. Does this sound familiar to any of you Workhorse owners? If so, what did they do to correct and many thanks!

RE: Which Route I-80, I-40, or I-10?

I did a 9100 mile round trip this summer from Florida to B/C and WA Coast. For a nice scenic route I'd go: I-84 (along Columbia River Basin) to I-15, to Highway 6 (a few steep grades but with passing lanes) at Provo to I-70 east to Highway 191 (one of most beautiful roads I have been on) then South through Moab (overnight and have dinner in Moab if possible and you have to drive through Arches NP if you haven't seen) you continue on 191 into AZ and you have several more Parks enroute as well as Monument Valley that can be quick drive throughs), then I-40 to Indian Nation Turnpike east of OK City then south to I-20 East, then South again on I-49 to I-10, make sure you take the I-12 By-Pass or you go through NOLA, then merge back onto I-10 into Florida. It is not much different in mileage than the shortest route but very scenic until you hit I-40. Plenty of Campgrounds enroute, you should be able to get into any at last minute.
